Compare complete systems, including reinforcement and finishes, rather than deciding solely on the material. If an existing wall is being replaced, its function in the building must be checked first.

Can plasterboard systems reduce noise between rooms or from neighbours?

A plasterboard system can form part of a solution to reduce noise, but the result depends on the wall composition and how sound is transmitted. Joints and junctions with other surfaces also need to be checked. Before adding boards, identify the problem and assess a suitable acoustic solution.

Can kitchen cabinets, shelves or a television be mounted on a plasterboard wall?

It can be done if the wall and fixings are designed for the load. For wall cabinets, anchoring points and reinforcement should be planned before the partition is closed. For a television or shelf, check the weight, type of bracket and installed system; there is no universal maximum weight for every plasterboard wall.

Can plasterboard be used in bathrooms and other damp areas?

In areas exposed to water, the appropriate complete system must be specified, and if there is a leak, its source must be corrected: replacing the board alone does not stop water entering.
